Getting sick can sometimes be inevitable. Despite your healthy diet, superb hygiene and immune boosting supplements, sometimes we catch a virus. This is especially true for those of us with young children around. So, how do you get rid of the flu naturally? I’ve compiled a list of my favorite flu busting remedies to help shorten the duration and lessen the severity of your flu symptoms, getting you back on your feet in no time.
All of the items below are safe and effective for adults, as well as children, just be sure to ½ the dose for children under age 12.
1. Vitamin C (1,000 mg 3–4x daily)
First and foremost, listen to your body when you are sick. In some cases, lack of appetite is your body’s way of diverting all of its resources to healing. Digestion of food takes a lot of energy, so if you are not hungry, don’t force yourself to eat.
If you are in the mood, opt for light, easy to digest foods: Include soups with bone broth, cooked vegetables or herbal teas to help with digestion.
Drink up: Adequate hydration is the key to flushing out the virus from your system. Fluids help your body to flush bacteria and viruses from your system. Drink approximately half your body weight in ounces daily of clean filtered water. Add lemon or another citrus fruit for taste… Green and black teas are also potent immune system-boosters and antioxidants, and another great way to stay hydrated.
Spice it up: Cook with garlic, onions, oregano, thyme, coriander, and turmeric: All of these vegetable help boost immune function.
