GLOW DIY Aromatherapy Sugar Scrub

Our recipe this week is a little different. We’re sharing one of our favorite DIY Aromatherapy Sugar Scrubs – which would make great, inexpensive, but thoughtful gifts – and is also the perfect way to treat yourself to a little self-care this holiday season!

This is perfect for exfoliating the skin, while also adding back in tons of moisture – not to mention the benefits from the essential oils.

Not sure which essential oil to use? Here are a few of our favorites, along with some of their benefits.

Peppermint: used to boost energy and aid digestion
Lavender: used to relieve stress
Sandalwood: used to calm nerves and help with focus
Bergamot: used to reduce stress and improve skin conditions like eczema
Rose: used to improve mood and reduce anxiety
Chamomile: used to improve mood and relaxation
Ylang-Ylang: used to treat headaches, nausea, and skin conditions
Tea Tree: used to fight infections and boost immunity
Jasmine: used to help with depression, childbirth, and libido
Lemon: used to aid digestion, mood, headaches, and more

You could use any of these individually or a combination to create a scent you love!

Don’t forget that the men in your life can use products like these, too, and sandalwood, bergamot and tea tree would be great choices for heavier, muskier scents.

We recommend using this in the shower or bathtub and following up with your favorite body lotion.

A little sugar scrub in a glass jar with a ribbon would make the cutest gift or stocking stuffer this holiday season!

INGREDIENTS

1/2 cup Organic Coconut Oil
1/4 cup Sugar (I use organic cane sugar or coconut sugar)
Optional: 2 tablespoons Citrus Zest (such as orange, lemon or grapefruit) OR 10 drops of your favorite Essential Oil such as Lavender, Eucalyptus etc.
Optional: 1 teaspoon Vitamin E Oil

INSTRUCTIONS

In a small glass bowl stir to combine room temperature coconut oil with sugar using a spoon or fork. Add the optional zest, essential oils or vitamin E oil if using.

Transfer to an airtight container, seal tightly and store at room temperature for up to two months. If you use the citrus zest it will have a shorter shelf life.
